About us

Who we are

We are a non-profit making organization, primarily concerned with creating access to information on girls and young women rights or related issues through interaction, advocacy, documentation, education and networking for positive change.

Solidarity Girls for Girls Fizi (SG4GF) was set up on September 17th, 2017 by a group of young feminist human rights and peace activists of Fizi, South Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The group is registered with the municipality of Fizi Territory under the registration number 5072/26/BU-AT/TF/2021 as a non-profit making and non-political community-based organization (CBO). 

Our constitution is drawn up according to the guidelines for voluntary organisations highly influenced by The 1979 UN Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women. The group is wholly and entirely women-led.

Our approach

Aims

Our aim is to work to promote women’s and girls’ rights in the Fizi territory of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

We work at the grassroots level on documenting and sharing information about human rights abuse, the rule of law, the status of women’s human rights and promote programmes to help empower women’s human rights and peace activists at the community level through non-violent, anti-militarism, arms trade, disarmament activities, and challenge male dominating attitude.

Objectives

The mission of Solidarity G4G Fizi is to improve the lives of adolescents, young women and youth in the Fizi Territory through increasing access to quality health care, information and a sustainable system of community development.
  • To improve gender equality and equity through advocacy and lobbying and promotion of human rights and health for all
  • Build capacity and empowering girls and women towards achieving their full and active participation in development activities
  • Enhancing youth involvement and participation of the grassroots in policy making and implementation
  • To provide information channels for the enhancement of awareness of women’s rights, and services available to communities (reproductive health, education, and training).
  • To promote and advocate for clean water and hygiene education including menstruation management in schools
  • To empower local communities and women in particular to self-sufficiency using integrated approaches for income generation that contribute to poverty reduction.
  • To build relationships and collaborate on projects that promote and disseminates the important voices of young women, girls and youth in general.

The structure and management of SG4G Fizi

The General Assembly (GA) is composed of more than 100 members from 15 villages of Fizi. It is the supreme decision-making body of the organization. It determines the general policy of the organization. The decisions of GA are executed by the Board of Trustees (CA) in the picture below, The CE is the office that implements the decisions of CA. This CE is made of an Executive Secretary (Coordinator) who works with 4 main services: Finance, Administration, Projects and Cooperation.

  1. Board of Directors (OfficeofthePresident, Vice-President, Secretary, V/Secretary and the 2 advisors i.e., decision-making body)
  1. EC: Executive Committee (Office of the Coordinator or Executive Secretary. Board’s decision-making body). This body is composed of:
  • A Finance Officer
  • An Administrative Officer
  • A Programme/ Project Officer
  • A Cooperation Officer
